Empowering communities of color to empower themselves

Untrapped Ministries is a gun violence prevention organization in Rochester, NY that works to create change through the understanding that Economic Empowerment, Health & Wellness and a sense of Connectedness & Belonging are inextricably connected to violence prevention and intervention. Through our work, we seek to provide young adults with the necessary education, skillset, tools and resources needed to obtain gainful employment, foster healthy relationships, address and resolve conflict and safely and effectively respond to violence.

According to the Rochester Police Department Data Portal, 2021 was a year of record violence in the City of Rochester with 420 people shot and 81 homicides.

Gun Violence Prevention Initiatives

ECONOMIC EMPOWERMENT

We create a sense of community, connectedness and collaboration through our REVIVE program, which seeks to support young adults in th job and career aspirations, workforce preparation through skills and training and gainful employment.

HEALTH AND WELLNESS

We seek to improve young adults’ social and emotional development by providing a range of supports through weekly relationship and community building circles, as well as a monthly “Head of the Table” roundtable discussion for our community male leaders.

COMMUNITY OUTREACH

Our Community Vanguards physically go into the most vulnerable communities throughout Rochester, NY to recruit people who are directly or indirectly affected by gun violence and connect them to our programs and resources.
